Steam is filled with excellent strategy games, but there aren't many like Against the Storm. It's beloved by almost everyone who's played it, with a stunning fantasy world, gripping gameplay, and incredibly well-designed UI all coming together to make it unmissable. If you've never played it, or stepped away some time ago and are eager for a reason to return, the new 1.7 update is the perfect time.
Against the Storm review is glowing, too, saying it "effortlessly commands your focus" with the game's simplicity and complexity always playing the same tune.
After apocalyptic rains ruin the land, it's up to you to rebuild society from the ground up. As the Viceroy you need to venture out on missions, build up towns, and gather materials. There are wildly distinctive fantasy races, a gripping aesthetic, and a truly inventive gameplay loop. Now, Against the Storm is getting even better.
Developer Eremite Games is dropping a big quality-of-life update on Tuesday February 18, and it's filled with improvements. First up, you'll now be able to check out loads of settlement statistics on the fly, as global bonuses and effects, production stats, and settlement stats give you more numbers to work with. You can also mirror buildings, meaning they can be swapped horizontally for all your placement needs. There's also "Deed information on World Map Modifier tooltips," and balance changes to cornerstones, orders, and rewards. In short, Against the Storm is getting a whole lot better.
Eremite Games does recommend you finish ongoing settlements for the update, or be prepared for them to close. You will get citadel resources equal to winning that game and a royal supply as compensation, though. Against the Storm 1.7 releases on Tuesday February 18.
