It's the 6th anniversary of Apex Legends this month, and what a journey it's been. Respawn's multiplayer shooter has been through some highs and lows over the years, rising through every challenge to remain a pillar of the arena FPS scene. To celebrate lasting so long, several additions have been announced over the coming year, including big gameplay tweaks to keep even seasoned players on their toes.
The FPS is being injected with some invigorating ideas.
Right off the top, Arsenals are new weapons banks located around each map, that contain every weapon of a particular ammo. You can see them as you drop into the battle royale, and they're designed to make getting in, loading up and moving out even faster and more dynamic. The Assault class is getting a boost as part of a spotlighting effort to make it more efficient, including fresh perks that provide yet more firepower.

In a first for the action game, every single weapon is getting a rebalance or rejig, to address niggling issues or just provide a lick of paint and make sure everything still feels good to play. Meanwhile, matchmaking is getting a whole gateway in the form of Road to Ranked, a set of challenges players will need to complete to access ranked play. The idea is to provide some barrier to entry wherein people need to prove they're both good and collaborative enough to step into the more big leagues.
Efforts to stop cheaters are being increased as well, as Respawn states you'll be seeing more hurdles put in place to catch out unfair s in the months ahead. Of course, no anniversary would be complete without some themed loot, and 36 items, all legendary or above, are being released for you to pick up while engaged in the maelstrom.
Not everything is coming from Respawn, either, as a bunch of selected of creators will be curating challenges and rewards over a two week period. These include skins and other prizes, so if you have a favorite streamer or Apex-themed personality, they might be about to provide your new favorite aesthetic.
