Over the last 12 months, the rate at which new characters have been pumped into Apex Legends has reduced drastically. Focusing more on new in-game experiences and reworking existing legends, it's been as near as makes no difference an entire year since we last saw a new addition to the roster. However, that dry streak is about to end, as ahead of Apex Legends Season 25, Respawn Entertainment has unveiled new legend Sparrow, who comes with two extremely important assets – incredible archery skills, and an adorable cat.
As mentioned, it's almost a year since Respawn added a new legend to its Apex Legends' 21st season on May 7 last year. Soon, Sparrow will become legend number 27, and while details are light when it comes to his actual abilities, there are a few clues dotted around.
For a start, it seems as if Sparrow's archery-inspired kit is going to depend a lot on the Bocek Compound Bow weapon that's already in Apex Legends. He can be seen using one in his new cinematic reveal trailer, and the Season 25 landing page on the Apex Legends website also teases that "all-new Bocek updates are ready to blast their way into your arsenal." Whether Sparrow will drop into a match with one equipped as standard, or if the Bocek will return as a ground loot item that players can find, remains to be seen.
However, you can see in the trailer that he has a quiver filled with electrified arrows. As always, these cinematics shouldn't be taken as gospel as they may be stylized rather than true depictions of in-game abilities, but Sparrow is shown stabbing an enemy at close range with one. Another shot shows Sparrow attaching a frag grenade to the end of an arrow, implying that you may be able to send throwables much farther and more accurately at long distance enemies using your bow. I'm going to predict that this is his ultimate, but you can also see an electric arrow being fired next to a group of enemy legends, which then electrocutes all of them within its radius.
There are a few blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments where Sparrow also uses a small jet pack to perform boosted jumps, so expect him to be highly mobile and agile legend.
We'll have to wait for an official gameplay trailer to find out exactly what his kit is, but regardless of his in-game capabilities, it's nice to see a fresh face coming to the game. The trailer also shows that Sparrow has an extremely cute black cat, so he immediately gets a bonus point from me.
Sparrow should arrive at the start of Apex Legends Season 25, which is expected to go live on Tuesday, May 6 according to the current battle timer.
