Assassin's Creed Shadows multiplayer might actually be real

Assassin’s Creed Shadows multiplayer or co-op modes could be on the way, as hinted by data secreted among Ubisoft’s latest stealth RPG.

If Assassin's Creed Black Flag remains one of the most beloved games in the entire series, it's partly because it was the last time that AC had a full multiplayer mode. 12 years later, and the competitive sneaking and stabbing that first began with Brotherhood is yet to make a return. But that could be about to change. As Ubisoft prepares to announce what's next for its latest, Japan-set stealth RPG, hidden code strings suggest that Assassin's Creed Shadows multiplayer could be a reality. Given that we have two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, perhaps a full co-op mode would also make sense. Here's hoping.

It's just over a month since RPG series. Sweeping vistas, swift combat and sneaking mechanics, and a solid story mark a return to form for AC.

But Ubisoft, apparently, has more to come. Today, Wednesday April 30, the developer will officially reveal more about Assassin's Creed Shadows' future. Before that, however, dataminers have unearthed possible proof of a new multiplayer mode, seemingly hidden in the code for the AC Shadows website.

You might that the Assassin's Creed Animus Hub was launched at the same time as Shadows. Given that Ubisoft is seemingly trying to collate the entire series onto one virtual platform, the return of multiplayer feels a little more plausible. We'll have to wait and see what the developer reveals. But if you're feeling optimistic, perhaps Ubisoft will confirm AC Shadows at its showcase today.
