Destiny 2 has experienced some pretty wild and problematic technical hiccups in recent months, but with Heresy Act 2 going live, Bungie has just made an unbelievable blunder. Slated to launch in a few weeks' time with the start of Act 3, Destiny 2's Rite of the Nine event has somehow gone live early, allowing people to start playing its tweaked fan-favorite dungeons and even unlock the new reprised weapons.
Look, launch day bugs and issues are to be expected when a big new update hits any live service game, but it feels like things have been getting messier in FPS game's new story content. Instead, players quickly realized that some of the reworked dungeon activities that should have been coming with the Rite of the Nine event in Act 3 (scheduled to launch on Tuesday, April 1) were pushed live early.
Given the connotations of Act 3's launch date being April Fool's Day, I did wonder if this was a surprise 'gotcha' from Bungie. Maybe it intentionally deceived players so that it could shadow drop Rite of the Nine early? However, it quickly became clear that this was a mistake, and Bungie has now confirmed as such.

"We are aware of an issue where early, incomplete versions of Rite of the Nine Dungeons are accessible," an X post from the Destiny 2 community reads. "Access to Rite of the Nine activities will be disabled as soon as possible, and all related rewards will be disabled from use until further notice. This content is still in the oven and [we] are looking forward to the completed versions being released at a later date. We apologize for the hiccup!"
As players accessed the refreshed versions of the Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep dungeons, they were also being rewarded with some classic weapons that are set to be reprised as part of the event. However, the new versions of these weapons were dropping with placeholder icons and textures, resulting in some comically basic-looking guns.
This mishap occurred despite some extended downtime before Act 2 went live to ensure the rollout went smoothly – lord knows what else might have gone wrong if it hadn't been pushed back a couple hours. While this one's pretty funny, it's the latest in a long line of bizarre and concerning tech issues with Destiny 2 – its its content, rather than the hilarity of its bugs.
