How do you use gestures and emotes in Elden Ring Nightreign? Emotes and gestures have been a staple in FromSoftware's soulslikes since the halcyon days of Dark Souls. Many have taken on new life as community in-jokes, while others are the backbone of its social etiquette. In Nightreign, they've never been more important.
Nightreign class. Here's how to gesture and perform all emotes in this co-op adventure.
How to gesture in Nightreign
To gesture in Elden Ring Nightreign, open the main menu and then hit '1' / 'Triangle' / 'Y' to open the gestures menu. Navigate to the gesture and then hit 'Left-Click' / 'Cross' / 'A' to perform it.
You can also add Nightreign gestures to your favorites list. Simply hover over the gesture you want to favorite and press '2' / 'Square' / 'X'. This places it in first position on your list of gestures, so you can perform it immediately and reduce the time it takes to navigate to it.
Be aware that emotes often restrict your movements, and in some cases lock you into an animation until the gesture is complete or interrupted. While your co-op partners would likely enjoy emoting with you, perhaps refrain from using them right before you fight Nightreign bosses.
All Nightreign gestures
Some gestures in Nightreign are unlocked by default, and others must be purchased at the shop for a small amount of currency. If you're on the hunt for a specific emote, our complete list can help you track it down in no time.
While the most distinctive Elden Ring gestures are available at Nightreign's launch, several are missing. This could be due to excessive clipping on Nightreign's unique character models, but it's more likely that the omitted emotes will find their way into the soulslike game eventually.
Default gestures
Default gestures are available when you begin a new game in Nightreign. These free emotes don't have any unlock requirements, and you can perform them at any time.
Here are all the default Nightreign gestures:
- Point forwards
- Point upwards
- Point downwards

Shop gestures
The default emotes are useful for basic communication, but if you're looking for more personal emotes to express yourself, head to the Small Jar Bazaar in the Roundtable Hold. Aside from Nightreign relics and goblets, this small shop includes a selection of gestures that cost 200 Murk.
Once purchased, these emotes automatically appear in the Gestures menu. We recommend buying the Prattling Pate emotes, since they emit an audio trigger that can alert your allies far better than standard gestures.
Here are all the Nightreign gestures available in the shop:
- Polite bow
- Strength!
- Warm welcome
- Fancy spin
- Crossed legs
- Rest
- Sitting sideways
- Fire spur me
- As you wish
- Heartening cry
- Calm down!
- Finger snap
- Prayer
- Rapture
- Erudition
- Outer order
- Prattling Pate "Hello"
- Prattling Pate "Thank you"
- Prattling Pate "Wonderful"
- Prattling Pate "Please help"
