Elden Ring Nightreign map key locations

There are key locations on the Nightreign map that you need to be aware of, as they will help you form the optimal route to take down your chosen Night Lord and any Elden Ring Nightreign bosses along the way. The overall shape of the map, including the topography, and any environmental points of interest like Sites of Grace, Spectral Hawk Trees, and Spiritstreams remain static.

Most other elements, however, will be randomized across the map. This includes forts, cathedrals, churches, camps, and ruins. While enemies will appear in most of these places, they also have specific items that can be helpful on your journey. Where you drop and what kind of structures you'll have nearby are randomized, but there's a general order on what to prioritize. We've highlighted the areas you should target first if you want to have a successful expedition.

Here are all the key locations on the Elden Ring Nightreign map, listed in priority order:

  • Churches
  • Camps
  • Forts and Ruins
  • Evergaols
  • Shifting Earth events

Churches

Setting a marker towards the churches on the map is incredibly important because they reward you with flash upgrades that drastically increase your survivability. By the time you reach the Night Lord on day 3, you should have around 7 flasks. In addition to this, there are Great Churches (also known as Cathedrals), where you can find a boss in the middle of the area. You should aim to target churches whenever possible across both day 1 and 2.

Camps

Wherever you drop, you'll have a camp right next to you filled with enemies. Always clear out this camp first. By doing so, you'll have enough Runes to reach level 2 at the nearby Site of Grace. The difference this makes is astronomical, as you'll have much higher survivability at the very start of your run against other enemies and bosses.

Camps may seem ordinary at first, but they feature bosses that drop elemental weapons which are essential when it comes to taking down bosses and Night Lords. You can tell which element a camp contains if you zoom in on your map and look at the icon; a flame for fire, a lightning symbol for lightning, etc. You may want to prioritize this on day 1 to ensure you don't have to scramble to find a suitable weapon at the last minute.

Forts and Ruins

Forts are filled with knights, and at the top of the structure is a boss alongside a treasure chest containing a Stonesword key. These can be used to unlock extra bosses at Evergaols, providing an excellent opportunity to gain some fast level ups. Similar to Forts, you should be able to find a chest within Runes that has a Stonesword Key inside. You can also find a hole inside these areas that will take you directly to a boss fight.

Evergaols

It's not always easy to obtain Stonesword Keys, but if you do happen to get your hands on one, you should aim to visit an Evergaol to utilize them. Upon activation, this area spawns in a boss that scales to your level, so you can feel free to tackle them whenever you see fit. The rewards from these bosses can go a long way to helping you earn quick Runes and powerful ive buffs.

Shifting Earth events

Depending on whether you have a Shifting Earth event, they're best held off to tackle until day 2. The Crater event rewards you with the ability to upgrade your current weapon to the highest level, which comes in handy for the Night Lord on day 3. If you happen to have the Mountaintop or Rotted Woods events, they can be particularly helpful for certain Night Lords. For example, reaching the end of Mountaintop grants you frost immunity against the Fissure in the Fog Night Lord. Likewise, the Rotted Woods has an item that grants you immunity against Scarlet Rot, which can make the fight against the Equilibrious Beat Night Lord much easier.

Elden Ring Nightreign map world events

During your expedition, you may encounter a random world event that can force you to alter your plans. Of course, they are random so you won't know exactly when you can expect them, but they're still worth knowing about so you can plan accordingly.

Here are the Elden Ring Nightreign map world events we've encountered so far:

  • Augur
  • Fell Omen
  • Scale-Bearing Merchant
  • Shifting Earth

Augur

Augur is actually one of the Night Lords, and it can appear as a random world event. Thankfully, it's one of the easier Night Lords and when you encounter it on the map as it's weaker compared to its Night Lord incarnation. You'll know it's coming when a notification appears that reads, "Giant bubbles are forming." Your reward for beating this boss is Unifying Fate, which adds FP recovery when using your flask.

Fell Omen

The Fell Omen boss will appear out of nowhere, forcing you to fight it. Don't try to outrun because it will always teleport near someone in your party. The reward for defeating the Fell Omen is a ive buff called Traces of Grace-Given Lord, which boosts attack power at newly found Sites of Grace.

Scale-Bearing Merchant

On rare occasions, this monster places a curse on you that caps your maximum HP. To remove it, you must track down the monster and pay a price. On day 1, the price is 15,000 Runes, and you'll have to pay 35,000 Runes on day 2. Afterward, you can make a deal with the Scale-Bearing Merchant to increase the number of Runes you receive after defeating an enemy, or increase your resistance to status ailments. Be careful, as there's a penalty for each option. For example, boosting Rune acquisition comes at a cost of your HP slowly slithering away every second.

Shifting Earth

After an expedition, sometimes you'll get a Shifting Earth event for your next run. These events completely change a part of the map, and there are four events that you need to be aware of:

  • The Crater
  • Noklateo, the Shrouded City
  • Rotted Woods
  • The Mountaintop

What Shifting Earth event you experience can also be affected by which ones your teammates have access too. For example, you unlock the first Shifting Earth event, Crater, after defeating the first Night Lord. However, if your teammate has already unlocked it, it's possible for it to show up on your run even if you haven't unlocked it yourself. If you're not happy with a particular Shifting Earth event, you can sleep in the beds to the time, which will cause the event to end.

With these tips in mind, you'll be more prepared to take on the Night Lords in the multiplayer game. Be sure to check out our other guides as well.
