While these soulslike game, where they are, and the rewards that come along with it.
Shifting Earth events explained
Though Shifting Earth events are technically random, when you first start to encounter them, you're guaranteed to see them for a short period of time.
Here are the four types of Shifting Earth events:
- The Crater
- The Mountaintop
- Rotted Woods
- Noklateo, the Shrouded City
After you experience one of the Shifting Earth events, they become completely random, leaving you with very little control over which ones appear. Fortunately, there are some ways around this. You can queue with other players that currently have a specific Shifting Earth event active. However, you will need to have it unlocked. For example, if you want to match with someone who has the Crater event active, you have to have encountered the Crater event.
There's also another method that can be used to encounter Shifting Earth events that you haven't unlocked yet. Instead of finding other teammates or friends through matchmaking, you'll need to invite the people who have the Shifting Earth event you want. Let's say you don't have the Shrouded City unlocked yet, but your friend does. Have them invite you through Nightreign's invitation feature at the Roundtable and their party. This will let you experience other Shifting Earth events you haven't unlocked yet. If an event occurs and it's not the one you want, you can get rid of it by sleeping in the bedrooms to the time.
The Crater
This is the first Shifting Earth event you'll unlock after defeating the first Night Lord, Tricephelos. It's located near the north of Limveld and is home to many fire-elemental enemies. On your way there, one boss you'll fight is the Fire Prelates. The Crater is one of the easier Shifting Earth events as you can skip most of the smaller enemies and focus on the main boss.
The Crater rewards
At the bottom of the area, the last boss is the Magma Wyrm. After it's defeated, you can interact with the anvil to upgrade one of your weapons into a legendary version of itself, maxing out its potential.
The Mountaintop
The Mountaintop is the second Shifting Earth event you'll unlock after defeating your third Night Lord. Instead of going underground like you did with the Crater event, you'll climb a huge mountain at the top left of Limveld. This location features ice-based enemies, so you can prepare yourself by gearing up accordingly.
Along the way, you'll encounter some Snowfield Trolls, and it's a good idea to fight them as they can drop some helpful buffs, including ones that increase your Frostbite resistance. Eventually, you'll face off against the Mountaintop Dragon. While you're near the boss, your Frostbite gauge starts to increase, so those extra buffs from the Snowfield Trolls can be vital.
The Mountaintop rewards
Unlike the rest of the Shifting Earth events, you can grab the reward from the Mountaintop without having to defeat the boss. You can run past the Mountaintop Dragon to collect the buff behind it to dramatically increase your Frostbite resistance and add bonus damage to dragon enemies. Then go back and defeat the Mountaintop Dragon.
The Mountaintop event is the least useful Shifting Earth event due to its bonuses being circumstantial. Frostbite resistance is only useful when you're up against the Night Lord, Caligo, Miasma of Night. If you're up against any of the other bosses, it's best to skip this one.
Rotted Woods
The Rotted Woods is the third Shifting Earth event you'll unlock after defeating your fifth Night Lord. This event is located at the top right of Limveld, and you'll be subjected to the Scarlet Rot status condition, which slowly drains your HP. There are also a few bosses located in the Rotted Woods, including the Erdtree Avatar, Ancestor Spirit, Black Blade Kindred, and Ulcerated Tree Spirit.
To counteract this effect, one person will need to go to the marked location on the map to find the location of the forest's power. It has multiple locations that change between expeditions, but it's typically found in a walkable tree.
Rotted Woods rewards
After interacting with the forest's power, you'll gain the Favor of the Rotted Woods status, granting immunity to Scarlet Rot and increases your max HP. Additionally, attacks after receiving damage partially recover HP.
The Rotted Woods is one of the best Shifting Earth events due to the Favor of the Rotted Woods' bonuses. Not only is the Scarlet Rot immunity helpful against the Night Lord, Libra, Creature of Night, but the other bonuses like max HP increase and partially recovering HP are generally useful.
Noklateo, the Shrouded City
The final Shifting Earth event, unlocked after you've beaten seven Night Lords. This event is located at the bottom left of Limveld and requires you to utilize Spiritstreams to navigate the city's various platforms. The enemies here don't have an elemental affinity, but they use various physical and magical attacks.
Located in the deepest parts of the city, your reward is a ive buff that lets you auto-resurrect yourself one time, an incredibly useful, especially during boss battles and your fight against the Night Lord. Be careful not to accidentally jump over the edge or fall into crevices as you're navigating the city, resulting in instant death.
Along the way to this location, you'll come across the Black Knife Assassin and the Dragon Kin Soldier – defeating them nets you ive buffs. However, the last boss of the Shrouded City is Naturalborn of the Void, a humongous translucent and cosmic-like bug creature. It's very powerful, even if you're around levels 10 or 11.
Noklateo, the Shrouded City rewards
After defeating the boss, go to the back of the room and touch the power of the city, granting you the Favor of Noklateo, the Shrouded City. This will let you rise once after being downed, as well as briefly make you more powerful. You'll also receive plenty of Runes, most likely giving you enough to level up at the nearest Site of Grace.
