The first Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 DLC is here, featuring a peculiar painter

Warhorse's first KCD2 DLC sees Henry encounter a strange and enigmatic artist and introduces an excellent new customization feature.

While there are more than enough memorable and surprising storylines crammed into Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's base game, Warhorse Studios has just dropped one of its most eccentric yet thanks to the launch of its first DLC expansion. Taking Henry on a new adventure involving a slightly unhinged artist looking to paint his magnum opus, the new KCD2 DLC also introduces an awesome new customization feature.

RPG's release in February. The DLC sees you cross paths with a mysterious (and rather shifty) painter known as Master Voyta. Like so many of history's great tortured artists, Master Voyta is trying to create a defining masterpiece – but he'll require Henry's help to bring it to life.

In this new questline, you'll meet (and, no doubt, slay) characters both old and new to uncover more about the painter's unusual backstory. Warhorse says that this questline will span both the Trosky and Kuttenberg maps, but you don't have to complete any specific quests from the base game's story to start Brushes with Death.

In return for your assistance, Master Voyta will give you access to a new customization feature – shield painting. With a wealth of color palettes, patterns, and insignias on offer, you can create your own design to appear on your shield.

In what I think is a really nice touch that'll either reward you for your many hours racked up in the base game, or encourage you to explore parts of it you haven't got round to yet, completing certain quests and tasks, visiting certain locations, or meeting certain NPCs will unlock more insignias that you can use on your custom shield design. If during your time with KCD2 you've already ticked the right boxes to unlock a symbol, it'll be there for you to use straight away when you jump into the new expansion.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's Brushes with Death DLC is out right now. If you already own the Expansion or bought the Gold Edition of the game, then it's already yours and is available to right now. For everyone else, it'll set you back a very modest $5.99 / £4.99.

If you're not too fussed about the new DLC, there's still plenty to cheer about. Releasing alongside it today is update 1.3, which is free for all players. The big addition here is the new horse racing side activity, and a couple of related quests. You'll also find dozens of bug fixes and enhancements.
