How does focus mode work in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Focus mode allows you to have more control when attacking and defending targets; attacks and guards are directed where the camera is facing. While hunting, attacking the same parts continuously create wounds, which focus mode highlights to help you aim and direct attacks at the right area.
The mode also shows enemy weak spots, so you can use special attacks called Focus Strikes to deal extra damage to these spots, and this also works on wounds created. This makes using high risk, high reward weapons like the Great Sword not so daunting, as it'll be easier to focus attacks.
