Beloved roguelike sequel Monster Train 2 is almost here, and you can try it now

roguelike deckbuilding sequel Monster Train 2 finally has a release date, and we don't have long to wait before it comes to Steam.

Alongside Slay the Spire, Monster Train is easily one of the best and most beloved roguelike deckbuilders around. Almost five years after launch it sits at over 18,000 Steam reviews with a 96% score, netting it the highly elusive 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating. Set on a train to Hell, it twists the genre with multiple vertical battlegrounds you need to manage, and a whole lot of cards. Now, we finally have a release date for the sequel, Monster Train 2, and we don't have long to wait.

Just like the first game, roguelike in the truest sense.

Expanding on the original Monster Train, you now have new card types to use. Room cards add boosts to your train, while equipment cards can be directly applied to units for specific bonuses. There's even going to be the highly-requested Endless Mode, where your perpetual engine doesn't stop and the difficulty only increases.

Between all your trips on the train, you'll head back to the Covenant Outpost. Here you can unlock new parts to customize your rig and take on daily challenges, alongside a suite of random events. You can also unlock Pyre Hearts, with each adding unique gameplay functions to your run before you depart. There are even Dimensional Challenges, handcrafted missions that completely twist how you play and offer up special cosmetic rewards.

Shiny Shoe is releasing Monster Train 2 on Wednesday May 21, with a demo available on Steam right now. Just head here.
