The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Super specs just leaked, suggesting loads more VRAM

According to a new leak, this new gaming GPU will come with 24GB of VRAM, but the graphics card specs otherwise look very familiar.

More leaks are pointing to the launch of a new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Super gaming GPU coming out, and the latest rumor again appears to confirm that the new GPU will have 24GB of VRAM rather than the 16GB on the standard RTX 5080. If this leak is right, though, there's not much else new – it fundamentally looks like an RTX 5080 but with more VRAM.

Although it only has 16GB of VRAM and a high $999 price, the lack of high-end competition means the RTX 5080 is still the Nvidia GPU, which falls over if you try to run Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at 4K with path tracing, for example.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Super specs estimate

This is our best estimate for the RTX 5080 Super specs, based on leaks and speculation, as no official announcement has been made.

Rumored 5080 Super specs
GPU GB203-450-A1
CUDA cores 10,752
RT cores 84
Tensor cores 336
VRAM 24GB 32Gbps GDDR7
Memory interface 256-bit
Memory bandwidth 1,024GB/s
Total graphics power 400W+

The latest RTX 5080 Super specs rumor comes from regular, and often-reliable, tech leaker kopite7kimi, who shared the rumored details in a post on X (formerly Twitter). According to the leak, the RTX 5080 Super will come equipped with 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM, and unlike the 30Gbps memory on the RTX 5080, it will be clocked slightly higher so it runs at 32Gbps. If that's true, it would bring the total memory bandwidth up from 960GB/s to over the 1TB/s barrier at 1,024GB/s.

The leaked specs are otherwise basically identical to those of the standard RTX 5080, with the new GPU apparently based on the same GB203 core GPU as the original 5080, and with the same number of CUDA cores enabled at 10,752. If that's the case, then we can also infer that the RTX 5080 Super has 84 RT cores and 336 Tensor cores, as it will be based on the same core Blackwell architecture as the standard card.

The total graphics power has also apparently increased, though, going from 360W to over 400W. Some of this will be covered by the increase in memory clock speed, but it's also possible that the RTX 5080 Super will have a higher clock speed than the standard 5080.

While it looks disappointing that the RTX 5080 Super may only have the same core spec as the standard 5080, just with more VRAM, I welcome the potential addition of more memory for this high-end GPU. This decision would also make financial sense for Nvidia and its board partners, as it means graphics card makers can slot this new GPU into existing PCB designs for the old GPU, just with 3GB GDDR7 chips rather than 2GB ones.

Of course, as with all tech leaks, this is still very much in the rumor vicinity right now. Nvidia hasn't officially announced the RTX 5080 Super, and it may not even exist. While we wait for more information, check out my guide on RTX 5090 review.
