Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: the spindly Apotheosis staff.

Apotheosis

  • How to get: Purchased from Rindir's Staffs in the Market District, Imperial City
  • Enchantments: Fire Damage, Frost Damage, Shock Damage

The best Oblivion Remastered weapon for mages is Apotheosis. Unlike the other weapons on this list, Apotheosis can simply be bought from a vendor, though it's not cheap. Though it will set you back several thousand gold, this mighty staff is more than worth it if you can stump up the cash early on in the game. Sporting a combined 99 points of elemental damage across Fire, Frost, and Shock, it is ridiculously strong.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a large silver sword.

Blackwater Blade

  • How to get: Loot Selene or persuade her to surrender during the quest 'An Unexpected Voyage'
  • Enchantment: Absorb Fatigue

The Blackwater Blade isn't only a great weapon because Absorb Fatigue takes the pep out of an enemy's step, it's also a great weapon because it's tied to one of the best side quests in Oblivion Remastered – An Unexpected Voyage.

To kick off the quest, take a nap in The Bloated Float: a boat-turned-inn located in the Waterfront District of the Imperial City. Upon awakening, you'll find yourself well and truly at sea, beginning a swashbuckling adventure with two equally satisfying potential outcomes.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: the black and gold Blade of Woe.

Blade of Woe

  • How to get: Complete the Dark Brotherhood quest 'Honor Thy Mother'
  • Enchantments: Demoralize, Damage Willpower, Damage Health, Damage Magicka

The best Oblivion Remastered weapon for dagger s is the Blade of Woe. If you're a stealthy stealthster, then ing the Dark Brotherhood is the best move you can make in Oblivion Remastered. Not only do you get plenty of handy gear that'll supplement your sleuthing, but completing its associated questline will award you with an enchanted version of the Blade of Woe – the weapon Lucien initially gives you.

While the base version is already one of the best daggers you can get early on, the enchanted upgrade is pretty cracked. Boasting four strong modifiers, you're going to be making short work of anything that you sneak up on.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a short sword with a blue blade.

Chillrend

  • How to get: Complete the quest 'The Killing Field' with both sons surviving
  • Enchantments: Frost Damage, Weakness to Frost

The best early game Oblivion Remastered weapon for sword s is Chillrend. At least, it's the best you can acquire without cheesing (see: Umbra). As soon as you arrive in Chorrol, you'll be able to take a quest from Valus Odiil that sees you and his sons defend his family farm from goblins. Should both sons survive, Chillrend is yours.

Not only does Chillrend inflict Frost damage, but it also applies Weakness to Frost with each strike. It's already an impressive blade at the beginning of your journey, but if you choose to acquire it later on, the Level 25+ version is right up there with the highest DPS weapons in the game.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a jagged gold and silver sword.

Dawnfang/Duskfang

  • How to get: Complete the Shivering Isles quest 'Baiting the Trap'
  • Enchantments: Fire/Frost Damage, Nourish Blade, Absorb Health/Magicka (Superior)

Easily the coolest weapon in Oblivion Remastered, Dawnfang and Duskfang transform between themselves depending on the time of day in-game, and provide form-specific bonuses. When you first acquire the longsword, you'll have to kill a certain number of enemies to satiate its thirst for blood. When the blade is fully nourished, it'll become 'Superior,' unlocking the Absorb Health/Magicka enchantments. Neat.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a silver katana

Ebony Blade

  • How to get: Complete the Daedric Artifact quest 'The Whispering Door' (Level 20 required)
  • Enchantments: Silence, Absorb Health

A monstrous longsword with a malefic ive, the Ebony Blade is one of the most iconic Daedric artifacts, and one you should definitely take for a spin. Not only does it inflict Silence on stricken enemies, but it'll also absorb their health. As such, this is a top weapon for fighters looking to go toe-to-toe with mages.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a golden bow

Frostwyrm Bow

  • How to get: Loot the Uderfrykte Matron in The Jerall Mountains, northeast of Cheydinhal
  • Enchantment: Frost Damage

The best early game Oblivion Remastered weapon for rangers is the Frostwyrm Bow. As soon as you've exited the sewers, fast travel to the Black Waterside Stables outside Cheydinhal and venture up the Jerall Mountains. Here you'll encounter an invisible yeti-style creature called the Uderfrykte Matron. Kill it, and you'll find the bow on their corpse.

The Frostwyrm Bow delivers a solid 15 points of Frost Damage per hit, which is more than sufficient to get you through the opening phases of the game. At least, until you can pick up the Hatred's Soul.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a staff with a Goblin skull attached

Goblin Totem Staff

  • How to get: Found on the floor in the Plundered Mine, east of Bruma
  • Enchantment: Shock Damage

The best early game Oblivion Remastered weapon for mages is the Goblin Totem Staff. There are multiple locations where you can find one of these, scattered throughout Cyrodiil, though arguably the quickest to retrieve is in the Plundered Mine to the east of Bruma.

Dishing out 20 points of Shock Damage with each swing, the Goblin Totem Staff can make quick work of anything you'll encounter early on. Should you run out of juice and lack the soul gems to refill its charge, go and grab another one from the other tribal outposts.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a golden katana

Goldbrand

  • How to get: Complete the Daedric quest 'Boethiah's Quest' (Level 20 required)
  • Enchantment: Fire Damage

The best Oblivion Remastered weapon for sword s is Goldbrand. While Daedric artifacts can be incredibly hit-and-miss, the Goldbrand's performance is as good as its looks. The dripped-out longsword comes close to Umbra's base damage, but outperforms its more emo-coded counterpart in pure DPS thanks to its enchantment.

As with other Daedric artifacts, Goldbrand cannot be upgraded, though you'll need to be at least Level 20 to access it anyway.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a black and red amce

Hatred's Heart

  • How to get: Sunken tower in the Chorrol Oblivion gate, Chorrol
  • Enchantments: Fire Damage, Drain Speed

The best Oblivion Remastered weapon for mace s is Hatred's Heart. Hatred's Heart and its equally menacing sibling, Hatred's Soul, are blink-and-miss weapons that require you to keep your eyes peeled for a hidden entrance on islands north-northwest of the sunken tower in Chorrol's Oblivion. Following the ageway will bring you to the Fume Vaults, where you'll find this powerful pairing.

While the bow gets most of the plaudits, Hatred's Heart is still the best vanilla mace in the game if you snap it up at Level 19+. Not only does it have a hefty 24 base damage, but it drains speed, making for easier hits, and dishes out a massive 35 points of Fire Damage with each strike. Bosh.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a red and black bow

Hatred's Soul

  • How to get: Sunken tower in the Chorrol Oblivion gate, Chorrol
  • Enchantments: Fire Damage, Drain Speed

The best Oblivion Remastered weapon for rangers is Hatred's Soul. As with its twin, Hatred's Heart, Hatred's Soul can Drain Speed, making it the perfect hit-and-run weapon. What's more, you won't have to worry about serving up death by a thousand arrows, thanks to the massive 35 points of Fire Damage dealt on hit. Hard-hitting and great for maintaining distance from a target, Hatred's Soul is the perfect bow.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: the spiky Nerveshatter

Nerveshatter

  • How to get: Loot Lady Syl during either the Shivering Isles quests 'Ritual of Accession' or 'The Roots of Madness'
  • Enchantments: Weakness to Shock, Shock Damage

The best Oblivion Remastered weapon for warhammer s is Nerveshatter. If you're bluntly bashing your way through the Shivering Isles DLC, then you'll want to make sure you pick up Nerveshatter. At Level 30+, this mighty, spiky, leveled warhammer absolutely mashes through anything it meets, thanks to the Shock Damage/Weakness to Shock enchantment combo.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a black bow with an eye near the handle

Ruin's Edge

  • How to get: Given by Lady Syl after completing the Shivering Isles quest 'Lady of Paranoia'
  • Enchantments: Random Spell Effect (Paralyze, Silence, Demoralize, Frenzy, Burden)

While not the best bow on our list by any means, Ruin's Edge is the best-designed by a long shot – what other bow can you make direct eye with as you draw it? Fire aesthetics aside, Ruin's Edge also brings a whimsical RNG enchantment with it, applying a random effect with each shot. Practical? Not necessarily. Incredibly good fun? Absolutely.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a purple, black, and silver sword

Umbra

  • How to get: Loot from Umbra in Vindasel
  • Enchantment: Soul Trap

Though we've given the title of best early game sword to Chillrend, if you're willing to get a little creative with Bethesda's game logic, then by far and away the best sword you can get at Level 1 is Umbra due to its chart-topping base damage. In fact, if it weren't for Goldbrand's enchantment doing a lot of heavy lifting, Umbra would stand tall as the best sword in the game, full stop.

To get Umbra as soon as you're out of the sewer, head to Vindasel and find Umbra (the NPC). Aggro her and lead her out of Vindasel, back to the Imperial City. Upon entering the city, the guards will attack her. Simply wait for the city's finest to do their job (running away if she toggles onto you), and you'll not only be able to retrieve her sword, but a very nice set of armor.

While Umbra's Ebony Armor is leveled, you'll only get an extra five total armor out of it at Level 15+, so don't feel too bad if you get it sooner than intended.

Best Oblivion Remastered weapons: a small, curved dagger

Witsplinter

  • How to get: Loot Faustina Cartia during the quest 'The Siren's Deception'
  • Enchantments: Drain Intelligence, Damage Magicka

If you picked any of the birthsign options that made you weak to magic, then you're probably looking for a way to mercilessly dispatch your arcane adversaries.

The good news, if you're a dagger enjoyer, is that Witsplinter exists. Though it won't immediately prevent casting like the Ebony Blade, it will eventually make even the most magnificent of mages crumble thanks to its Drain Intelligence and Damage Magicka enchantments. For best results, become a dagger grabber at Level 25+.

And those are the best Oblivion Remastered weapons you can snap up as you snap shut the jaws of Oblivion. If your impatience gets the better of you and you simply want to nab them now, then check out our Oblivion Remastered console commands guide that'll show you how.
