Former Paradox CEO says Epic "has done a great job" challenging the 70/30 revenue split

Fredrik Wester, former CEO of Paradox Interactive, calls the 70/30 revenue split "outrageous" and thanks Epic for challenging it.

While Steam ers continue to rail against Epic's push into becoming a strong digital platform – have been a lot more ive of Epic, particularly in regards to the generous revenue split.

The latest er of Epic's initiative is Fredrik Wester, former CEO of Paradox Interactive. Wester, who stepped down from CEO last year but is still executive chairman of the board at Paradox, called the current industry standard 70/30 split – used by Steam, Microsoft, Sony, Apple and pretty much everyone but Epic – "outrageous," and added, "I think the platform holders are taking too much money."

Wester was part of a at Gamelab last week, which was hosted by for challenging it. "Epic has done a great job for the whole industry," said Wester, "because you get 88%. Fantastic move. Thank you very much."

The former CEO has made at least some effort to alter it. He later confirmed that Paradox is "not planning to do any exclusives" but doesn't blame developers who do, considering what Epic is offering.

In the Gamelab discussion, Wester goes on to say that Epic's deals are particularly good for new developers, who now have "lower margins to get into the market" – but now that the competition is there, platform holders should not still be getting 30% of a game's revenue. "When the competition is low, the platform holder can get a big share of the pie," he says. "As competition increases, they need to lower their part of the pie, as well. That's how the market works, right?"

For Epic's part, CEO Tim Sweeney says the company cheaper games on the Epic store, and that currently hasn't happened yet either.
