The price of the fastest gaming SSD we've ever tested has just dropped by up to $50, thanks to this latest SSD deal. Amazon says it's a limited-time offer, so you'll need to get in quick, but it enables you to save $30 off the price of a 1TB Samsung 9100 Pro, and $50 off the 4TB model, giving you a discount of up to 15%.
I recently gave this drive a score of 8/10 in my best gaming SSD guide. All versions of the SSD are currently on offer too, spanning 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, with and without heatsinks.
Samsung claims this drive can hit a gigantic sequential read speed of 14,800MB/s, and while it couldn't quite replicate this figure in my own tests, the 4TB drive did hit a massive 14,725MB/s, which is substantially quicker than any other drive we've benchmarked, including the Crucial T705.
I also recorded a top sequential write speed of 13,450MB/s, which is again quicker than any other drive that's been run through our test suite. Game load times are also superb on the Samsung 9100 Pro, and it achieved the best PC Mark 10 full system drive test result we've recorded as well.
Could these new price reductions be down to rumors of a new WD Black SN8100 SSD coming to disrupt the market? That's quite possible – there's nothing quite like the threat of competition to bring down prices, and I very much welcome the prospect of cheaper top-speed PCIe 5.0 SSDs.
In these latest offers, you can now grab the 1TB Samsung 9100 Pro for $169.99, saving you 15% on the usual price of $199.99, while the heatsink model now costs $189.99, down from $219.99. I found the heatsink model worked really well in my testing – it's surprisingly slim for a PCIe 5.0 SSD heatsink, but it still kept the drive cool without throttling during benchmarks, running 6°C cooler than the heatsink-equipped Crucial T705 under the same load.
Meanwhile, the 2TB drive now costs $269.99, down from $299.99, or $289.99 for the heatsink version, again saving you up to £30. Finally, the 4TB drive's price is now down to $499.99, saving you $50 on the usual price, while the heatsink-equipped version is now down to a price of $519.99, again showing a drop of $50.
The Samsung 9100 Pro still isn't cheap, of course, but if you want the best gaming SSD you can buy right now, its price now looks more tempting than beforehand.
