Nine months later, new Star Wars Outlaws update fixes the biggest combat problem

A gigantic new Star Wars Outlaws update remedies some of the worst issues with shooting and weapons in Ubisoft’s underloved tie-in.

Ubisoft has been hit with hard times lately. Far Cry 6 let people down. Skull and Bones struggled to find form. Xdefiant never really got started, and has since been shuttered for good. But maybe things are starting to turn around. Assassin's Creed Shadows is a success, The Division 3 is in the works, and Rainbow Six Siege X is scheduled to arrive in June. Even Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft's underloved and overlooked tie-in shooter from August of last year, is getting better. If it put you off nine months ago, or you've never tried it before, the new Star Wars Outlaws update fixes one of the most irksome combat problems and adds new missions.

It looks good, the movement is fluid, and, as far as the Star Wars Outlaws look cartoonish, as you ively absorb damage until it's your turn to shoot back.

Thankfully, that's no longer a problem. The new update for Outlaws finally lets you fire Kay's blaster whenever and wherever you want during the Speeder sections. While on foot, you can also now seamlessly switch between the blaster and two-handed weapons, and to further improve combat, the enemy now has better AI when it comes to moving in and out of cover and being suppressed.

The patented Trailblazer customization system has also been improved, giving you a larger choice of ive upgrades. There are also new space contracts available. On top of the refined shooting mechanics – and dozens of bug fixes and balance changes in the full patch – that's another reason to play through Star Wars Outlaws a second time.
