Lovecraft inspired tactical roguelike Starless Abyss is now even more rewarding

Lovecraftian roguelike strategy game Starless Abyss ramps up rewards to expand your arsenal, with a new reroll system and salvage options.

I'm not sure what makes the unknowable so irresistibly compelling, but there's no questioning the allure of Lovecraft style eldritch horror. Arriving in April, new roguelike strategy game Starless Abyss forces scientists and worshippers of the occult to work together in the face of powerful, invading Outer Gods. It's already earned itself a very positive response from players, with 85% of Steam reviews recommending it, but now developer Konafa Games is ensuring you'll have more options at your disposal than ever.

Having now had a few weeks to settle, Konafa is unleashing its first big update, Spoils of the Abyss. "We're bringing you a bunch of brand-new stuff, lots of free things, and more opportunities to earn even more rewards," the studio explains. "Now, you'll be able to play through Starless Abyss with even more tools in your arsenal, with even more options than ever before."

Whenever you are offered rewards, you'll now be able to reroll or salvage them. Rerolling requires you to spend dice, and can be used for both ships and artifacts. Salvaging offers different outcomes based on the object in question: cards and rituals can be turned into dice, breaking down ships earns you HP repair, and scrubbing artifacts awards credits.

The pool of free rewards that are offered after every three combats and from random encounters will now only pull from your faction's cards and those of Counter Horror, which should give you more consistent, loadout-suitable selections. When visiting a shipyard, you'll be able to select which ship you want to upgrade, and can now upgrade multiple in a single visit if you have enough credits.

Beyond that, you'll find a hefty chunk of balance changes, bug fixes, and some small menu and interface improvements to further enhance your experience. "Thank you for ing us on all the cool stuff we've been doing for Starless Abyss so far," Konafa says, "there's still more to come."

The Starless Abyss: Spoils of the Abyss update is out now for free. You can buy the game on Steam, priced at $19.99 / £16.75. Take a look through the full patch notes courtesy of Konafa Games if you're ready to face down the unknowable.
