The Sinking City is getting a free remaster, and you can be in its sequel

In the wake of a new trailer for the highly anticipated Sinking City 2, which you can now star in, the original is being remastered.

There's something so alluring about H.P Lovecraft's work. Whether it's the contemporary turn-of-the-century setting, or sheer enormity of his cosmic creations, when Cthulhu calls, I can't help but listen. The Sinking City 2 and, of course, its predecessor, blend all of that eerie goodness with old-fashioned horror game mechanics and L.A. Noire-esque investigation, and it quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite indie series. Now that we've finally got a little more insight into the sequel, however, Frogwares has confirmed that the original game is getting a full remaster ahead its sister's launch, and I can't wait.

After 365 days of complete silence, horror game earlier in March, throwing open the doors to a brand-new Kickstarter, too. Since then, the team has absolutely shattered its €100,000 goal, with the pot currently sitting at €427,245 – a number that's gone up three times since I started writing this.

Thrusting you back into an eldritch-infested, 1920s America, you're tasked with exploring the city streets and unraveling their mysteries. There's everything from traditional Creature from the Black Lagoon-esque monsters to a mysterious woman clad in white – Arkham isn't a place for the faint of heart.

To celebrate the Kickstarter's success, Frogwares has confirmed that the original game is getting a complete remaster ahead of the sequel's launch. Reimagined in Unreal Engine 5, Oakmont's getting a fresh lick of paint, new dynamic lighting, and even a photo mode. The remaster is free for those who already own the game, and will also release separately if you're looking to pick it up.

There's no release date at the moment, but given that The Sinking City 2 is set to drop sometime in 2025, I imagine that the original's remaster will appear relatively soon.

But, there's even more. As part of a brand new event, 100 lucky players will have the opportunity to have their voice featured in-game. You'll play the part of a cultist, chanting praises to one of the Old Ones, Yog-Sothoth, and are tasked with simply saying 'yes.' You can scream, shout, and let it all out, but, to borrow Frogwares' words, "the more eldritch the better."

From here, the team will randomly choose 100 entries, with one player receiving a Collector's Edition of the game. You can submit your chalkboard-scratching, ear-invading yowls here, but you'll have to do so before Thursday April 3 at 3am PST / 6am EST / 11am BST / 12pm CEST.

The Sinking City 2 release date is slated for 2025, with playtests set to drop in the lead up to launch. If you're looking to the developer's Kickstarter, you have until Saturday April 5 to do so.
