Valheim developer Iron Gate has a new Deep North update for us as it continues to work on the next biome for the Viking survival game. The final region to be fleshed out of those included with the game's early-access launch, the Deep North is currently in development, but things have been quiet lately as rivals such as Rust, Ark, and Palworld unveil new regions and major patches. Thankfully, the Valheim maker promises that it's "very much still working on the game" despite not showing much of the Deep North publicly so far – and it has another big overhaul in the works for the meantime.
This latest survival game's Deep North biome. It reassures players worried about the relative radio silence that "Deep North development is in progress, but we want to leave a lot of it for you to discover yourselves." Personally, I'm quite thankful. By the time we stepped into the Ashlands for real, I felt as though half of the sense of adventure had already been lost thanks to an overwhelming count of item and enemy previews.

It's nice to get a little taste, however, and Iron Gate has just that for us courtesy of its new blog post, which it's now calling "Word from the Devs." Watch the short teaser above, and you'll catch a glimpse of an aggressive-looking creature that looks like a furry cousin to Greylings and Greydwarfs. It's called an 'Elaking,' and Iron Gate reveals that they can be found carrying lanterns to light their way through the darkness.
Before we have to deal with such threats, however, a smaller update is set to arrive prior to the launch of Deep North with a focus on improving Valheim's combat. In particular, Iron Gate confirms it's working on fixing slope fighting to feel much more robust than it currently does. As a little bonus, the studio also gives us a look at a new armor set that will be included in the combat update when it arrives, and you can see it below.
There's still no word yet on when we can expect the Deep North update to be launched, but we'll be sure to keep you up to date with all the details as they come.
In the meantime, round up your friends and try another of the best Viking games instead.
