Look, look, I know what you're going to say when you see the word Metroidvania: "where's Silksong?" I don't know! Nobody knows, maybe not even Team Cherry, so just forget about that right now because there are plenty of other great games in the genre out there, such as Voidwrought, which came out last October. You can obviously see from the game's art style that it's taken some cues from the original Hollow Knight, but it sets itself apart by leaning in the cosmic horror direction, rather than the creepy crawly bug direction. And as developer Powersnake announced today, a brand new update has arrived in the game adding in New Game Plus and Hardcore modes.
The New Game Plus mode that's just arrived in Metroidvanias that make it easy to run out of your abilities.
Lastly, there's The Undone path, where "death itself becomes a weapon." In this version of New Game Plus, you'll "permanently lose 1 health bar per death", and health cannot be regained outside of dying, but to compensate your regular attack damage is increased every time you die. Oh, and enemies are stronger in this version too.
When it comes to the Hardcore mode, this is now an option that can be chosen right from the beginning, meaning you don't have to beat the game first. What makes this mode tough is permadeath, something I'm sure would add a real extra challenge to one of the above New Game Plus paths.
