Several years ago, I spent some time playing World of Warships with a friend, and the appeal of its simulation of naval warfare was immediately apparent. The idea of learning its deep systems and mastering the controls in battles against veteran players, however, proved a little intimidating. If you fancy a more approachable alternative, I have good news; World of Warships: Legends, the war game's more newcomer-friendly sibling, is coming to PC via Steam, and the first closed beta date has just been confirmed.
Created as a more accessible version of the original, free Steam game.

Hot off the heels of the base game's collaboration with anime ship battler Azure Lane, Wargaming Group confirms that the first World of Warships: Legends Steam beta test is set to begin on Friday May 23. Players will get to try out the game in Versus AI, Arcade, and Standard battle types, with access to ship tech trees, commanders, divisions, campaigns, and missions.
Wargaming says it's eager to collect on the PC control scheme, any performance issues, and other potential problems that may arise "to ensure Steam players get a smooth and polished experience when World of Warships: Legends launches." It adds that work is currently underway to provide for Legends on Steam Deck, so you can take part in its grand battles on the go.
The World of Warships Legends PC closed beta test will run from Friday May 23 until Monday May 26 on Steam. If you want to take part, you can head to the store page and click the request access button for a chance to . The full game is planned to launch via early access initially, with a 1.0 release scheduled for 2026, and is set to crossplay with the other versions.
