If you've been itching for a reason to return to Ubisoft's feudal Japan, the studio's latest Assassin's Creed Shadows update is the perfect excuse. Not only is Yasuke and Naoe's t adventure one of the best AC games in years, but Ubisoft has a massive slate of free patches and DLC coming in 2025. Now, the first of many major updates is here, giving you a free mission to sink your teeth into – and much more.
Update 1.0.4 is a big moment for RPG after doing everything you could at launch, or want to try it for the first time ahead of Shadows' big year, this is a good reason to start playing.
The highlight of 1.0.4 is easily the new quest. You'll now have a fresh mission arc from Luis Frois, who's based on the real-life Portuguese Catholic missionary and Jesuit. To start the missions, you'll need to complete the 'The Path He Walks' story on Yasuke's board. Once that's done, just head to Azuchi and go south of the Merchant's Quarters. As for what you can expect, here's what Ubisoft has to say:
"An encounter with Luis Frois at a Jesuit Mission turns into an opportunity to help an old friend. Retrieve lost notes, protect Lady Satoko and learn more about the Jesuits in this new free story pack playable with both Naoe or Yasuke."
On top of the new story material, Ubisoft has also heard your requests for an overhauled Codex system. Each character you meet now has their own bio entry in the Codex, helping you keep track of all the allies and enemies on your journey. Ubisoft has also fixed plenty of Assassin's Creed Shadows' bugs, with the world, quests, stealth, combat, UI, and more improved on every platform.
With multiplayer potentially coming to AC Shadows soon, Ubisoft's most impressive game in years could very well become even better by the end of 2025. The roap is already looking very strong, but the prospect of co-op or online PvP sends Shadows to new heights.
Ubisoft is launching Assassin's Creed Shadows update 1.0.4 on Tuesday May 6 at 7am PT / 10am EDT / 3pm BST, and you'll need around 17 GB of space on PC.
